This workshop has already taken place on the 17th November 2025.
The First International Workshop on Pretraining and Posttraining of Open Source Sovereign Foundation Models took place on 17 November in Berlin. The invite-only event brought together researchers, engineers, policymakers, startups, and industry partners from across Europe to advance the development of competitive and sovereign large language models.
Participants exchanged insights on data curation, scalable infrastructure, training optimization, and alignment methods, discussing what it takes to build state-of-the-art open source foundation models that strengthen Europe’s technological autonomy. The workshop provided a space for sharing perspectives, comparing approaches, and exploring concrete pathways for making European AI more transparent, trustworthy, and globally competitive.
